Fostering a Love of Reading and Leadership in District One
In commemoration of Reading Month and to continue celebrating Massy’s 100th birthday in the region Massy Stores St. Lucia partnered with the eleven primary schools in District One to promote the value of reading and leadership.
“Leaders are readers and readers can become leaders,” stated Martin Dorville Managing Director, emphasizing the connection between reading and leadership development. He highlighted that the regional company’s success over a century can be attributed to individuals who prioritized reading in their lives.
He told the hundreds of primary schoolers gathered that Massy aimed to spark a love for reading by sponsoring the District One Reading Competition and partner with teachers to encourage students to find enjoyment in reading. The message conveyed to the students emphasized the importance of intentional, passionate, and purposeful reading habits in fostering future leaders.
The initiative exemplifies Massy’s commitment to investing in the future of St. Lucia by fostering a culture of reading and leadership among the island’s youth. Beyond the District competition, the supermarket retail company further extended its commitment through staff volunteerism, book donations and tokens of appreciations.
Employees volunteered their time to read at their former schools, connecting with students and demonstrating the power of reading firsthand. Through this process sixteen schools received book donations, enriching their libraries and providing students with access to diverse reading materials. Massy Our 100 tokens were gifted to teachers and students, fostering a sense of community and celebrating the milestone anniversary.
