100 Trees for Massy’s 100th Anniversary
One Hundred (100) indigenous fruit trees were planted across ten primary and secondary schools in St. Lucia in March 2023. This environmental initiative was funded by Massy Stores (SLU) to commemorate the Massy Group’s 100th anniversary in the region. The activity was coordinated by the St. Lucia Youth Agricultural Forum and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).
The goal of the Massy 100 Trees initiative was engaging young people (the future of the region) in the conservation of indigenous fruit trees, increasing the availability of local fruits and encouraging the cultivation of climate resilient trees.
At the launch of the Massy 100 Trees Planting Project, Managing Director Martin Dorville reaffirmed Massy’s commitment to supporting youth led agricultural initiatives in St. Lucia. He acknowledged the strong partnership between Massy Stores, IICA and the St. Lucia Youth Agricultural Forum, which has led to many positive engagements in schools such as set up of school backyard gardens, school farms and other interventions since 2014.
IICA is the specialized agency for agriculture of the Inter-American System that supports the efforts of Member States to achieve agricultural development and rural well-being.
