Massy Stores supports UN Sustainable Development Goals in Saint Lucia
The United Nations Office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean has partnered with Massy Stores (Saint Lucia) Ltd., to inspire Saint Lucians to take action to fast-track progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This forms part of the UN’s sub-regional initiative to partner with the private sector, to amplify the rallying call to ActNow for the SDGs.
The UN’s global ActNow campaign is designed to encourage people from all sectors to take urgent action to achieve the SDGs. The Goals can potentially improve life for all, via reduced poverty, safer communities, equality, and better jobs. These issues matter to everyone. However, progress is too slow. Therefore, urgent action is required to act urgently, to turbo charge changes that foster better lives on a healthier planet.
In a courtesy call to Massy Stores (Saint Lucia) Ltd. Head Office, the UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Didier Trebucq noted that “as UN, we urgently need the powerful private sector to invest in the measures necessary to accelerate progress and get the goals back on track.” He added that: “the private sector has a key role to play in driving SDG acceleration in the Eastern Caribbean”.
Massy Stores sponsored the production and airing of an SDG video dubbed: SDG ActNow Campaign: Saint Lucians on Call. The video comprises a variety of messages from everyday Saint Lucians and images designed to communicate the urgency of the Sustainable Development Goals and the importance of taking action. The focus is on urging action for goals that present a significant/major challenge to Saint Lucia’s progress on the SDGs (based on the 2023 SDG report for Saint Lucia).
Massy Stores has been a strong advocate for the SDG’s with several initiatives designed to promote the goals. According to the Managing Director, Mr. Martin Dorville: “supporting the SDG ActNow campaign was an easy decision, as at the heart of Massy’s philosophy are people and the environment.” Mr. Dorville spoke of several ongoing innovative initiatives by Massy that bode well for SDG progress.
The SDG video will be launched on United Nations Day 2024.
