Massy Stores Partners with St. Lucia Diabetes and Hypertension Association for Diabetes Month 2023
“Know Your Risk, Know Your Response” – this powerful message served as the cornerstone of the 2023 Diabetes Month campaign in St. Lucia. Recognizing the importance of early detection and preventative measures, Massy Stores SLU joined forces with the St. Lucia Diabetes and Hypertension Association (SLDHA) to raise awareness and offer valuable support throughout the month.
This collaborative effort saw Massy Stores make a significant contribution to the cause. A generous donation of $8,000 to the SLDHA, along with furniture to facilitate screening sessions, provided a strong foundation for the campaign’s activities. Further Massy Stores pledged to leverage its island-wide network of locations to support educational and advocacy initiatives.
Highlighting the critical role of public awareness, Dr. Kedhma Dohr, President of the SLDHA, emphasized the importance of understanding one’s risk for diabetes. Early detection allows for preventative measures to be taken, potentially delaying or even preventing the onset of the condition. This year’s campaign also shed light on the potential complications associated with diabetes, underscoring the need for timely access to accurate information and effective treatment plans.
Beyond the financial contributions. Samantha Mauricette, Marketing Officer, of Massy Stores elaborated on the company’s multifaceted approach. Screenings will be offered at various Massy locations, providing convenient access for individuals to assess their risk. Additionally, discounts will also be provided to prescriptions filled on World Diabetes Day, further supporting those living with the condition.
In the end the campaign yielded positive results. Over 250 individuals participated in diabetes screenings across three Massy Stores locations, demonstrating a strong community response. The SLDHA reported an encouraging increase in overall awareness, particularly among men who actively sought out screenings at the stores.
Massy stores also actively participated in a national health fair organized by the SLDHA. This provided a valuable platform to showcase a selection of healthy and diabetic-friendly products readily available at Massy Gourmet. The booth proved to be a resounding success, generating overwhelmingly positive feedback and effectively promoting awareness of healthy food choices and accessible options for those managing diabetes.
This successful partnership between Massy Stores and the SLDHA serves as a prime example of the positive impact achieved by collaborative efforts in raising awareness and promoting positive health outcomes within the community.
By working together, Massy and the SLDHA empowered individuals to “Know Their Risk, Know Their Response,” ultimately contributing to a healthier St. Lucia.
