Massy Stores Continues Support for “Our Boys Matter” Program in Seventh Year
Castries, Saint Lucia — May 14, 2025. For the seventh consecutive year, Massy Stores (Saint Lucia) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to youth development with a $30,000 donation to the “Our Boys Matter” program, an initiative led by the Saint Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF) aimed at supporting at-risk boys across the island.
In a cheque presentation ceremony held at the new Massy Stores Head Office, company officials formalized the continued partnership with the SSDF, reinforcing their joint mission to uplift marginalized youth. Since its inception in 2018, Our Boys Matter has evolved into a comprehensive support system for boys at risk of dropping out of school, recently expanding to address household and environmental challenges that influence academic performance and personal development.
“At Massy Stores, we believe in knowing the story behind the challenges our communities face. That understanding fuels our commitment to meaningful, long-term change,” said Kelly Mitchell, Divisional Head for Marketing and Corporate Communications. “We’re proud to continue supporting a program that aligns with our core values of inclusion and empowerment.”
Martin Dorville, Managing Director of Massy Stores Saint Lucia, emphasized the initiative’s holistic approach:
“The Our Boys Matter program doesn’t just respond to academic issues, it taps into each boy’s individual interests, talents, and aspirations, creating a roadmap for long-term success.”
John Victorin, Executive Director of the SSDF, expressed gratitude for Massy Stores’ sustained support and noted that expansion plans are already in motion.
“Our Boys Matter has grown beyond the classroom. We’re addressing home dynamics, behavioral health, and employment readiness, and we’re eager to explore new partnerships and strategies to deepen this impact,” Victorin shared.
Dr. Fortuna Anthony, a consultant who has been with the program since its launch, outlined its evolution over the years. She highlighted the successes in mentorship, academic improvement, and family interventions as pivotal milestones, with plans underway to scale its reach across more communities.
The Our Boys Matter program currently provides a wide range of services, including housing support, educational tools, psychosocial care, mentorship, and access to apprenticeship and job placement opportunities. It remains a vital social intervention, empowering young men to rise above systemic barriers and achieve their full potential.
