J’s Produce Farms
J’s Produce Farms, located in the booming agricultural community of Boguis, Babonneau, is owned and operated by a young couple, Mr & Mrs Joseph. This business began as just a backyard garden over 10 years ago and has grown into a flagship market garden. Over the past 3 years we have delved into packaging our products, creating more brand awareness as we aim to make our products a household name to existing consumers and future customers alike.
We are proud growers of Microgreens, Baby Greens, Cherry Tomatoes and Scarlet kale. We have intentionally chosen to focus and grow these four main products given we are responsible for 90 percent of the work while having full-time jobs and two toddlers. We do remain hopeful to expand our products in the near future.
We are delighted to partner with Massy Stores St Lucia Ltd as we aim to make our products more accessible to customers.
Microgreens was one of the first items we started to package, and this product has been well received by the customers at Massy Stores around the island. From July of 2023 we were able to expand of reach in making this product available to customers in Soufriere, Choiseul and Vieux Fort.
Cherry tomatoes was added to our product listing in 2022. Given the challenges faced with producing this sensitive crop and the demand for this product we have gone to great lengths in researching and implementing the best practices to enhance the sustainability and consistency in producing our cherry tomatoes year round.
We have invested in a tunnel which we believe will further improve our capacity to better meet the high demands of our leafy vegetable products. We’ve made a conscious decision to mitigate pests by installing netting around the perimeters of the tunnel, with the overall objective of using safe agricultural practices.
Our aim is to use best practices on our farm that will contribute to sustainable agriculture. Composting is one of the ways we are able to recycle and manage the waste coming from our farm. The compost made is in turn used to feed our soil, here mitigating the cost of buying or using fertilizer. This also allows us to have little to no weed in the areas where we are currently planting.
J’s Produce Farms prides itself on relying on waste retrieved from the microgreens and biodegradable items around the community to help sustain their compost production. They have also embarked on a new initiative by planting herbs around the farm that attract beneficial insects to help alleviate pests and diseases.
Our Goal is to develop our Garden into a Weed Free/No Till/Naturally Grown Farm, with the overall objective of feeding the St. Lucian population with an exceptional line of locally grown produce.
