For over 14 years, Massy Stores has supported the National Carnival Queen Pageant and sponsored a contestant.  This year, Miss Massy Stores is nineteen (19)-year-old Claire-Marissa Smartt.

On Monday June 19th, 2017, the young lady toured company’s stores, meeting with employees and senior management.

Claire-Marissa’s mother and godmother are Massy Stores employees and her visit to the company’s Head office, Supermarkets, and Home Store proved to be a special homecoming for the outspoken and talented contestant. A Massy Stores scholarship recipient during her time at the St. Joseph’s Convent, she says the occasion was not just a visit to a sponsor, but to family.

“My mom works here, so it is easier to blend and it is easier to be a part of the family. I was always a part of the family and it is nice to represent them,” said the young beauty, adding that she is known as the ‘Massy Baby.’

“I feel like it is my time to give back to the company. They have helped me in school, dance and now in pageantry. This is my thank you and I know that I will do the best that I possibly can.”

Claire-Marissa’s mother Evran Emmanuel says she is proud of her daughter and grateful that her employer is investing the monetary and in-kind support that is required to see her fulfil her dream of gracing the national carnival queen stage.

“I am elated that my daughter is representing Massy Stores. It has always been her dream to take part in the national carnival queen pageant and to represent massy stores. Massy has always been there for her both in and out of school,” said Emmanuel.

Managing Director of Massy Stores St. Lucia Martin Dorville says the company remains committed to supporting arts and culture in St. Lucia. He says sponsoring a national queen contestant is an opportunity to invest in the talent, skills and dreams of young ladies and this year, Massy Stores is elated to sponsor the daughter of a team member.

“Congratulations on having won the Miss Saint Lucia Carnival Queen, because we think forward. I think you will do an excellent job. You will make us proud and I am sure you will make your mother proud. We feel equally privileged to have you representing the Massy Stores brand,” said Dorville, as he presented Claire-Marissa with a bouquet of flowers.

Claire-Marissa says this week’s tour was an opportunity to meet Massy employees, get a behind-the-scenes look at company operations and say thank-you for years of assistance.

For her sponsor, the grand welcome was another chance to support the ambitious teenager, this time as she pursues her dream of being crowned Miss Saint Lucia.
